How are media audiences playing?
Ch. 8 notes that some theories of play would define all forms of media where there is some notion of reception, reading, watching, or looking as "play" (p. 145-147). By this thinking the audiences for books, television, films, and art are all "at play."
In this blog post, use your own experience to try out this idea. First, recall and briefly (1) describe a memorable experience that you had as an audience member for one of the media forms just listed above (e.g., a recent book you read, a film you saw, etc.). Then (2) comment on how you felt (or what you did, if that is relevant) as an audience member in this particular instance. Finally, (3) justify this experience as being "at play." In other words, use material from the book to explain how your experience was playful. Back up your assessment by referring to any definition, theory, or quote in the chapter.
