Licensing broadcasters

SPECIAL GUEST: Michelle Gabris, WPGU-FM

Michelle Gabris is Operations Manager at WPGU-FM, a position she has held since 2003. WPGU 107.1 FM is an independently programmed 3,000 watt radio station with a coverage area of 50 miles. WPGU is owned by the Illini Media Company, a non-profit organization that also owns the Daily Illini, Buzz, and the Illio yearbook, and operates these with a mixture of professional and student staff. During Michelle's tenure at WPGU, the station underwent a major format change, eliminating its previous brand ("The Planet"). As the operations manager, Michelle is responsible for the station's broadcast license and communications with the FCC.

Michelle has also worked in marketing research, public relations, and graphic design. She received both the Bachelor's and Master's degree in Speech Communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, where her Master's degree focused on Organizational Communication and Communication Technology. Michelle had a distinguished career here at the University: When she was a graduate student instructor, Michelle was listed on the incomplete list of teachers ranked as excellent by their students. She is also an alumna of this class.
