Grading Rubric: Draft

| | Comments (2)
In class on Monday, February 18th, our small-working group (Brian, Kristin, Paul, and myself) was to create and elaborate on a grading rubric that would be used to evaluate our peers throughout the semester.

The following was the description of what our group was to accomplish in class:

"How can we fairly assess each other and our work? Transform the brainstorming of grading ideas into a rubric we can use to grade ourselves, starting by grading these groups!"

We think we should be graded on both the process and the product of the service learning project.  Each one of these sub-categories will be graded on a 0-10 point scale.  Those sub-scales can then be averaged and turned into a percentage.  That percentage would be your grade for the given project.

PROCESS

Coordination/Collaboration: Peer worked well with others in group to create cohesiveness for project work.  Peer was willing to volunteer and work both with others and in a solitary manner when needed.

Preparation/Organization: Peer presented his/her findings/material in a manner that was professional and easy to understand.

Commitment: Time spent on project is relatively equal to the amount of time spent by peers on the same project, regardless of the quantifiable material produced during the time spent working.

Communication: Peer responded to emails, answered or returned phone calls, or posted in blogs when needed in a timely fashion.

PRODUCT

Effectiveness: Work done was relevant to the goals put forth by the group.  The work met the needs of the respective project. The work was implemented in a way that met the goals of the original plan.

Each of these would be graded on a zero to ten point scale and averaged.

Most likely any coffees you ever drank came from ultra-productive, low-waged labor, machine-picked replica watches for sale and pesticide sprayed coffee farms in other parts of the world. Large companies who trade in coffee are interested in buying the cheapest beans available, resell, ship, store it for many months to the point where they have to infuse coffee aromas back into the beans during the roasting process! And you wonder why your stomach rebels against that second cup. Intense hand labor, only ripe beans, a unique climate and soil in Kona combined with natural processing gives this coffee its greatness. Fish scale textures and re-coloured ray skins mark this season's colour card.
