To become a foundation you must be one of the following:

• It is an organization described in 170(b)(1)A: churches, schools, colleges, etc.; hospitals, medical research institutes, etc.; support organizations to public colleges or universities; certain governmental units; publicly supported organizations;

• It is an organization that normally receives more than one-third of its support from gifts, grants, or fees and gross receipts from admissions, sales, etc. and normally receives not more than one-third of its support from investment income;

• It is a supporting organization that is not publicly supported but is organized for and controlled by another public charity;

• It is an organization organized and operated exclusively for testing for public safety.

Our goal.

Naming:

Brainstorming and random Wikipedia-ing led us to the term: Techno-progressivism

"Techno-progressivism, technoprogressivism, or tech-progressivism (a portmanteau word combining "technoscience-focused" and "progressivism") is a stance of active support for the convergence of technological change and social change. Techno-progressives argue that technological developments can be profoundly empowering and emancipatory when they are regulated by legitimate democratic and accountable authorities to ensure that their costs, risksbenefits are all fairly shared by the actual stakeholders to those developments.^"

Our proposed name for this would be something like TPI: Techno-Progressivism Initiative...

...This led us to branding/promotional ideas about getting "TPed" as in toilet paper all over your lawn and trees back in high school. So if our group takes on an educational purpose we could use something like "Get TPed" as a slogan. Something like "You Got TPed" could also work.

Structure:

University Affiliation?
We don't think that it is needed to identify ourselves in our branding with the University of Illinois. Should this grow into something more we don't want to limit ourselves due to this branding. However, we think that in some instances it would be beneficial to use this in order to get somethings accomplished (i.e. You are making phone calls and you can say "I am a student at the University of Illinois" and someone is more likely to answer your question/help you.)

We feel that many class members were under the impression that the class would be one large project which would be taken on in smaller projects. Task groups would be assigned along the way. Who is in which group could be determined by a ranking system and people could pick their top 2, 3 or 4 etc.

I worked with Megean and Kristin we have our results here.

Experiences:

- SPCM 250 class - Case study for University of Illinois Police Dept. The PR action plan design by my group (of which I was the team leader) was implemented this past fall by the UIPD.

- Internship in the Office for University Relations. Focus was the collecting and analysis of data for the redesign of the Uillinois.edu website. The site launched June '07 and included design ideas/suggestions from my proposal. (Also got to meet President White and get on the University Christmas card mailinglist... somehow...)

- Christian's SPCM 199 class. Blogged regularly and uploaded stills, screen captures as well as a bit of basic HTML coding (would need a refresher on this) to embed videos, links, etc.

Skills:

-University offered Survey builder experience (used in Internship to collect data).

- Excel, Gmail, Google Calendars, PowerPoint, nothing else too fancy with computers...

- PR planning and maintenance. (see experiences as well as this is what I am looking to going into in the future so I have a vested interest in this area)

- PEOPLE SKILLS! I am very comfortable calling new people, asking lots of questions and getting information.

- Event/Organizational/logistical planning. I have a lot of experience planning (successful) events. All of the things that go into it are taken care of and I try to plan for things that could possibly pop up at the last minute.

- Group ordering - I've done lots of t-shirt/similar type things for both Greek and non-Greek groups and events.

 - Random/Misc: I know how to play cello (since 4^th grade), Ice skate (since 4yrs old), and needlepoint.
