Part I.
One communication technology we have talked about countless times is the internet. We spoke about the internet in terms of generativity during Monday’s class. However it is interesting to see how the internet will affect the gaming consoles, such as Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, who have the ability to play online.

Part II.
Leverage- A gaming console with the internet has a lot of leverage. In essence, these consoles are like mini computers. With online gaming people can share files, such as records of games, with each other very easily from console to console over the internet. Gamers can even talk to each other through these consoles about their gaming strategies via internet. This makes for a very powerful system
Adaptability- A console with the internet is also very adaptable. Though the main purpose is playing games, it has a variety of other functions. These systems serve as storage devices because of their large hard drives. They serve as a medium of communication because people can use the internet to send emails, chat through programs such as AIM, or write to their friends using Facebook. These systems also serve as DVD players. Gaming consoles have a variety of functions.
Ease of Mastery- Gaming consoles are relatively easy to master. They do not have all the complicating features of a normal PC. Storing information is as simple as saving something to a standard PC. Using the internet is exactly the same with the only difference being the controller is your keyboard. All you have to do to watch a DVD is insert it and press play. Thus mastery is easy and a wide range of people from all ages can use a console.
Accessibility-Gaming consoles with internet are very accessible. There are two out there right now, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. They can be purchased at almost any store that sells electronics or over the internet. They are a bit pricey in terms of other consoles, at a price range of around 350 dollars, but people that can afford to buy a computer can buy a console. Sale of gaming consoles is not highly regulated as well.
Transferability- A gaming console with internet is very transferable. Programs can be changed when gaming online and once those programs are changed the changes will be implemented to every user by using the internet on their console. Changes can be made very quickly and since these consoles use the internet the changes can be sent out almost instantaneously.
Part III.
I think communication technologies are becoming more generative because they are becoming more adaptable and transferable. Take the Iphone for instance. The following quote sums up the Iphone. “A technology that affords hundreds of different, additional kinds of uses beyond its essential application is more adaptable and, all else being equal, more generative than a technology that offers fewer kinds of uses.” This is not just a device used to talk. You can use the internet, store music, watch movies, and play games on the Iphone, just to name a few applications. Changes can also be transferred very easily because users can have access to the internet. Therefore code can be written and implemented rather easily.
