Ryan Croke is a Policy Advisor in the Office of Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn. In this capacity, he advises the Lt. Governor on telecommunications and technology issues, organizes and moderates quarterly meetings of the Governor's Broadband Deployment Council with the state Director of Rural Affairs, and maintains a database of projects aimed at improving the cost, speed and availability of high-speed Internet service in Illinois -- www.illinoisbroadbanddeployment.pbwiki.com.
Croke received the M.A. in Speech Communication in 2008. His thesis is entitled "Improving Telecommunications for America's Deaf Population: Regulatory Imperatives for IP Videophones and the National Video Relay Service." While earning his B.A. in Political Science and Speech Communication [cum laude and with distinction] at the University of Illinois, Ryan completed the Information Technology Studies minor. In 2004 he received the CODA (Children of Deaf Adults) Millie Brother Scholarship. He is former Advocacy Chair of the UIUC Society of Signers and a member of the Illinois Association of the Deaf.
Ryan's thesis project blog describes his past work on his M.A. thesis. His current work focuses on broadband deployment, universal service, and telecommunications access for underserved populations.
