Lyon, Elizabeth
Economic Geography & GIS Technology
Elizabeth Lyon is a research geographer at the the Topographic Engineering Center of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Her research interests include theoretical economic geography, socio-economic development, international policy, and regional science. Her interest in socio-economic development stems in part from living in Kampala, Uganda, and from travel to Chile, Russia, Georgia, Kenya and (most recently) Madagascar. Her work with the PACT lab investigates the spatial diffusion of and public access to wireless communication technology. Elizabeth is responsible for mapping collected wireless data and handling GIS development and analysis. Prior to attending UIUC, Elizabeth graduated from Augustana College with a B.A. in Economics and French. She received the M.S. in Geography while working as a researcher with the PACT lab from 2004-2006. Elizabeth's thesis involved modeling population and employment location in the Chicago region.
